Job Summary
As a Principal Solution Architect, you will be part of our SAP Platform & Strategic Initiatives team. In this role, you are responsible for guiding strategic thought leadership across our SAP ecosystem, including functional & technical design & architecture, coaching & mentoring broader D&T talent, and successful delivery of strategic initiatives. This position plays a significant role in the definition and implementation of our over-arching SAP S/4 solutions and applications strategy, including functional roadmaps, architecture, design, and implementation for Finance solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead or advise on Finance solutions roadmap and projects: Understand financial business processes and requirements related to SAP solutions by engaging with business partners and SAP practitioners at the enterprise level.
- Conduct comparative research: Recommend strategies regarding SAP technologies to propose and implement solutions for business needs.
- Assist in hiring and vendor selection: Help select SAP-related resources, vendors, and products and advise on SAP solutions strategy.
- Perform discovery projects: Engage through D&T with business units and SAP team members to find the best solutions for GMI.
- Lead, consult, or participate in end-to-end implementations: Engage as a functional solutions architect in other parallel SAP projects.
- Craft adaptable, comprehensive solutions: Create blueprint documents for functional requirements and technical specifications.
- Participate in solution design, build, test, and go-live activities: Lead and review SAP finance solutions implementations, rollouts, or upgrade projects.
- Delegate responsibilities: Provide repeatable processes and verify the quality of team members’ work.
- Learn and understand existing system landscape: Design solutions for efficient integration of SAP systems with other business applications.
- Review current standards: Continuously revise to ensure best practices.
- Serve as the conduit between business and technology: Enable businesses and technology through D&T.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Accounting, or Business (or equivalent experience).
- 15+ years of SAP solutioning experience, progressing to architect level work.
- Expertise in one or more SAP ECC and/or SAP S/4 modules, particularly in financial accounting (FI) and financial controlling (CO).
- Experience with S/4 implementations, including COPA, product costing, universal Journal, material ledger, new GL, SPL, asset accounting, and FSCM.
- Strong functional and technical strategic thought leadership.
- Hands-on experience with complex and large-scale SAP project implementations.
- Strong mentoring skills to elevate other team members within and outside the GMI SAP Practice.
- Ability to convert business challenges into technical solutions.
- Time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple parallel activities.
- Collaborative nature with a strong focus on enabling team culture.
- Proven ability to lead and collaborate with global team members and third-party vendors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of managing financial integrations with SAP BW and SAP GRC.
- Experience with SAP localizations for geographies where GMI operates (e.g., Europe, Brazil, Asia).
- Waterfall and agile project management expertise.
- Experience using integration tools (e.g., Webmethods, APIs technologies).
- Experience with automated testing tools and methodologies.

Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $144,000 - $240,200 annually. Beyond base salary, General Mills offers a competitive Total Rewards package focusing on overall well-being, including health benefits, retirement and financial well-being, time off programs, and additional perks.
