Job Summary
The Director, Benefits is responsible for the leadership, strategy, design, implementation, and ongoing management of the company's employee benefits programs, including healthcare, defined benefit and defined contribution retirement plans, retiree health, time off, and wellbeing. This role requires a deep understanding of benefits regulations, best practices, and a strategic approach to delivering competitive and cost-effective benefits packages that attract, retain, and engage employees.
Responsibilities
- Develop and Implement Benefits Strategy: Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive benefits strategy across healthcare, retirement plans, retiree health, time off, and wellbeing.
- Vendor Management: Manage relationships with external benefits vendors including brokers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators.
- Compliance and Governance: Ensure benefits programs comply with applicable laws and regulations. Maintain accurate records and stay updated on regulatory changes.
- Labor and Employee Relations: Collaborate on collective bargaining agreements, providing expertise on benefits-related provisions and financial implications.
- Benefit Cost Management: Analyze data to monitor program effectiveness and costs, making data-driven recommendations for improvements. Work with finance partners on cost management.
- External Trend Analysis: Monitor marketplace trends and regulations to inform strategy and ensure program competitiveness.
- Communication and Education: Oversee the development of effective communication strategies to educate employees about benefits programs.
- Team Leadership and Development: Lead and mentor a high-performing team, providing guidance, training, and support to team members.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; Master's degree or benefits specialist certification (e.g., CEB) preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in benefits management with a proven track record in managing comprehensive and complex benefits programs.
- Strong understanding of benefits regulations and best practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and benefits administration software.
- Strong project management, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to lead and manage a team and build collaborative working relationships across functions.
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $169,700 - $254,700 annually. Beyond base salary, General Mills offers a competitive Total Rewards package focused on overall well-being, including health benefits, retirement and financial well-being, time off programs, and additional perks. Benefits may vary based on role, country, region, union status, and other employment factors. You may also be eligible for an annual incentive program based on individual and organizational performance.
